Everette has worked with the National Federation of the Blind for nearly 20 years. He is currently the President of the NFB Utah chapter as well as the Secretary for the national organization’s Board of Directors. 

Despite his competencies and pride as a blind person, Everette has accepted he needs to ask for assistance from a sighted person whenever visiting somewhere new.  Everette explains that the challenge is when good samaritans often grab or touch him to help him along his way. “I have to politely tell them that they don’t have to grab me- I can get there on my own. I’d rather someone just communicate with me to give me directional information. I’m excited that Hearsee can give me that information so I don’t have to ask for directions anymore.” 

Everette especially loves that Hearsee has worked with the blind community, not for the blind community. He says, “I’m excited that Hearsee has decided to include blind people like me in the process. Blind people aren’t always included when developing new technology. I feel like I’ve had a direct input on how the walking cane is designed, how the app gives information, etc. It was an awesome process to be involved on the ground floor of a technology that will help blind people maintain and improve independence when needing indoor navigation.”

Everette lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his wife and 2 dogs. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, he hopes to one day visit AT&T Stadium and find his seat and the concession stand without help.
