Frequently AskedQuestions

Answers for venues, community members, and anyone deciding whether Hearsee is right for their space.

Product & How It Works

The basics of what Hearsee is and how it works.

Hearsee pairs the Hearsee app and Hearsee cane with RFID wayfinding tags installed throughout a venue. A user opens the app, selects a destination, and receives clear, predictable audio guidance, like “turn left in 10 feet,” as they walk. Each tag confirms exactly where they are, so the guidance stays accurate the whole way, indoors or out, where GPS alone doesn’t reach.

No. Hearsee is built around cane-first mobility. The cane remains the primary tool, and Hearsee adds clarity, confidence, and context on top of the mobility skills someone already has. It isn’t a substitute for orientation and mobility training.

Hearsee is designed for complex indoor and connected environments, including schools, airports, hospitals, museums, university campuses, hotels, and civic buildings. Utah Arts Academy, a K-12 school in St. George, Utah, is Hearsee’s first completed deployment.

You need the free Hearsee app and a Hearsee cane. No other hardware is required on the user side, since the venue provides the mapped infrastructure (the RFID tags) that the app and cane read from.

For Venues

What’s involved in bringing Hearsee to a building or organization.

Hearsee’s deployment process follows five steps: Discovery, Mapping, Infrastructure Setup, Testing, and Launch & Support. A member of the Hearsee team walks your venue through each stage, from an initial conversation about your space through installing the RFID tags and confirming routes work correctly before going live.

Hearsee can map most indoor and connected outdoor spaces, including hallways, entrances, elevators, restrooms, gates, and any other point a visitor needs to navigate to or through. At Utah Arts Academy, that meant the main building, theatre, and piano lab across two levels.

Venues can self-manage routes and tag placement through the venue portal, so a renovation, a new wing, or a relabeled room doesn’t require waiting on the Hearsee team to update the map.

Use the Book a Demo button on this site, or reach out through the Contact page. We’ll set up a walkthrough of how Hearsee would work in your specific space.

Cost depends on the size and complexity of your space, so we walk through it together during your demo rather than publishing a flat number. Every dollar a venue or donor puts in goes toward infrastructure, and the app and cane always stay free for the people using them.

For Community

For blind and low-vision users and their families.

No. Hearsee is designed to support existing mobility skills, not replace them. The Hearsee cane connects users to mapped navigation guidance, but cane travel skills remain the foundation Hearsee builds on top of.

Yes. The Hearsee app and cane are provided at no cost to users. Every dollar donated funds venue infrastructure, not user fees.

Anyone can, including a user, a family member, a teacher, or a venue staff member, using the Request a Location form on the For Community page.

Submit a Request a Location form with the venue’s name and location. The Hearsee team will follow up to start the conversation with that venue.

Use the Join a Pilot button on this site to express interest. Pilots are how Hearsee tests and refines routes with real users before a full deployment.
